How I Approach Product Photoshoot
Recently I helped a friend to take some product photos. He told me the photos were complimented by potential buyers as they were aesthetically pleasing and presented the condition of the product well. I am sharing the photos here to gather more feedback and see how I can improve on my product photography techniques.
I approach this product photoshoot with the following general guiding points:
- Take photos of various angles of the product so that a potential buyer can have an all-around view of the condition
- Wherever relevant, take close-up shots of common wear and tear areas, e.g. HDMI ports, USB ports etc
- Not to add decorative items not included in the sale. A general feedback is that sometimes buyers thought that the additional or decorative items are packaged together as a bundle, and can potentially lead to misunderstandings
- Take a photo of all the accompanying accessories to let the buyer have a clear visual sense of everything in the package
- Ensure good lighting. Generally white light is preferred so that the original colours of the items are reflected. Try to avoid warm/yellow lighting as they tend to make the items look older than they are
I hope you find this post helpful if you happen to be taking product photos as well. Pls feel free to share any feedback or other tips and tricks so that we can learn from each other 😊
